Sporting Tickets

Public Ashes tickets for 2006/2007 totalled 720,000. As soon as these sporting tickets went on sale in June, scalpers bought up large quantities to sell at a profit. But Cricket Australia proclaimed that they would not honour sporting tickets that were resold in this manner. How could they tell? Forensic analysis was used to link original sporting ticket sales to scalpers' transactions on Ebay.

Sporting tickets for the next Ashes series will soon be available from Cricket Australia and if you register at Cricinfo as an "Australian Cricket Family" (ACF) in the months preceding June you'll have first bite at the ticket cherry.

Of course, other sporting ticket sales are sky high, with over 50,000 attending the A League Grand Final at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne, while the NRL Grand Final in Sydney reached close to 80,000. But the AFL Grand Final topped the three with a whopping 97,000 attending at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. These figures are for 2006.

The total attendance (for three games) for the Rugby League State of Origin between NSW and Queensland 2006 was 180,074, with an average per game of approximately 60,000. All these figures tell us that sport in Australia and sporting ticket sales are alive and well.
